Our client, operating both in Europe and the United States, introduced their European application to the USA’s market. Here, customers have different expectations, and different features are available – so our client needed to adapt the solution to this new environment.

What was standing in their way was staff shortages. Our client could not find developers with the right qualification and knowledge. The outbreak of COVID-19 at the very beginning of the project – in March 2020 – did not help at this task at all.

Our Solution

We worked in Scrumban, at the beginning as a team of 4 full-stack developers (one of which was a lead). Later the priorities changed, which reflected in a composition of 3 full-stack developers and 1 business analyst, that also acts as a product owner.

Our job was to develop new features specific to the American market. We prepared an option for exchanging the old car for a new one or added features that make up-selling much easier for our client.

The main part of the tech stack is Amazon AWS cloud. We wrote in Angular, node.js, and Typescript, and to make the features as light as possible, we use AWS Lambdas. We used IaaC, Infrastructure as a Code. Continuous Integration is based on AWS.

Benefits

Thanks to features automatizing up-selling, customers can initialize processes when they are interested in additional services or products. That saves both time of the client’s employees, as well as money.

The application that the company makes available to its customers offers many functionalities. It is making car ownership easier and more enjoyable, and builds a good image of the client’s brand.

The digitalisation of processes related to car ownership and maintenance made them faster and more intuitive for customers.

Working remotely during the pandemic

In March 2020, the team moved to Atlanta, Georgia, planning to stay there for at least half a year. For two weeks, engineers worked in our client’s office, along with other developers and designers.

Then the coronavirus pandemic happened and most companies decided to switch to remote working.

For our client, making sure all the processes carry on was challenging in this situation. But for the team that works remotely from the very beginning, it was known territory.

To all our clients that face the challenge of organizing rules for remote work for the first time, we offer our support and gladly share experiences. We always encourage remote working – as not only a remedy for pandemic times but as the most comfortable way of working in development teams.

What our partners say about us

After carefully evaluating suppliers, we decided to try a new approach and start working with a near-shore software house. Cooperation with Hicron Software House was something different, and it turned out to be a great success that brought added value to our company.

With HICRON’s creative ideas and fresh perspective, we reached a new level of our core platform and achieved our business goals.

The IT system supporting the work of retail outlets is the foundation of our business. The ability to optimize and adapt it to the needs of all entities in the PSA Group is of strategic importance and we consider it a step into the future. This project is a huge challenge: not only for us in terms of organization, but also for our partners – including Hicron – in terms of adapting the system to the needs and business models of PSA. Cooperation with Hicron consultants, taking into account their competences in the field of programming and processes specific to the automotive sector, gave us many reasons to be satisfied.
